I See You… Because I Was You!

Nine years ago, I built a brand in Nigeria. I was a makeup artist, but what I was really doing was earning trust, one client at a time. Then I moved to Canada. And in what felt like a single breath, all of it disappeared.

No client base. No reputation. No one who could vouch for the version of me I'd spent years building. I took the corporate route, customer service, and I was genuinely good at it. But there were moments where working in customer service created a weird imposter syndrome because people couldn't understand my accent easily. Despite the challenges, I was still able to excel, and I got promoted a few times.

And yet, even while I was growing, something kept pulling at me: There has to be more than this.

That's when I found tech. I had so many questions on my mind, like… Was this a real opportunity or just me running from discomfort? What if I got it wrong? But somewhere in the uncertainty, I knew that if I was to make such a big decision, I was going to do it properly rather than rushing to take courses or quitting my job.

Fortunately for me, I found mentors, joined the right communities, studied hard with structured guidance, and I was able to pivot into business analysis after about 22 months.

I've come to understand that immigrant professionals are not lacking in ability. I think we're some of the most resilient, resourceful people in any room, and what we're often missing is a structured path through a system that wasn't built with us in mind.

That's why I created The Strategic Career Pivot Program, because starting over is already one of the hardest things a person can do. It shouldn't also have to be directionless.
